Comments Off

One Text or Call Could Wreck It All.

In early February, an estimated 200 people in the Reno-Sparks area were cited for distracted driving during a special enforcement effort to raise awareness about distracted driving which was led by the Nevada Highway Patrol and Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.

Distracted driving is considered as any activity that diverts the driver’s attention to the road and includes adjusting the radio, talking to occupants, putting on make-up or eating while driving among other activities.

Overview of Citations

During the time period of February 12 to February 23, a total of 344 traffic stops and drivers were cited totaling 452 violations.

The most, 195, were cited for talking on cellphones or other activities.

Also, 97 speeding tickets were given and 38 people were cited for failure to show proof of insurance.

Only one ticket was written for failure to wear a seat belt.

The best way to end distracted driving is to educate all Americans about the danger it poses. For more information, please visit Distraction.gov.
