Tacoma Pickups Recalled By Toyota

Comments Off

Toyota announced the voluntary recalling of nearly 700,000 of Tacoma pickup trucks.

The recall applies to model years 2005 through 2011 pickups and includes four-wheel-drive and two-wheel drive vehicles (standard 4×2 pickups are not included). The recall involves a serious issue with the rear suspension.

In some instances, stress and corrosion can cause one of the three or four leaves in the rear suspension’s leaf springs to crack. Although, the trucks can still be driven in such instances, the automaker is concerned it could move out of position thereby affecting the other components in the rear of the truck with particular concern on the fuel tank. In which case there is a risk of fire.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has received dozens of complaints from owners dating back to 2011. However, at this time, there have not been any injuries or incidents involving this recall. But, the 690,000 owners that are affected by this recall will need seek an inspection at the dealership and, if necessary, repairs.

Auto owners can find more detailed information about this recall by visiting www.Toyota.com/recall and by calling Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331.

In April, we wrote about recalls being at an all-time high this year and that trend seems to be continuing as we round the last few months of 2014. Visit the NHTSA Website regularly to ensure you know if your vehicle makes the list.
