Broccoli Slaw Among Food Items Recalled By Trader Joe’s

Comments Off

Trader Joe’s recalled more than 33,000 pounds of broccoli slaw and kale salad because the sunflower seeds in the salad have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria (Listeriosis).

The recall affects several states including Nevada. The use-by dates on the products are listed as May 2nd and 7th. The recall comes after CRF Frozen Foods announced an expanded recall of frozen fruits and vegetables after seven people became sick with listeria. Trader Joe’s sells some of that company’s frozen fruits.

The recall now includes about 358 consumer products sold under 42 separate brands, up from an initial recall last month of 15 frozen vegetables. You can see a complete recall list with UPC codes  on the CRF Website. Consumers with questions may call the company’s consumer hotline at 844-483-3866.

Listeriosis, is a serious infection that is commonly caused by eating foods contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, according to the CDC. At risk are primarily pregnant women, young children and elderly people – those that may have a weakened or compromised immune system. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
