A voluntary, nationwide recall of baby wipes, was announced by Nutek Disposables, Inc. due to the presence of a bacteria, called Burkholderia cepacia (B. cepacia), in some of these products.
The baby wipes were sold under several brand names and include: Cuties, Diapers.com, Femtex, Fred’s, Kidgets, Member’s Mark, Simply Right, Sunny Smiles, Tender Touch, and Well Beginnings. These products were sold at the following retail stores: Walgreens, Sam’s Club, Family Dollar, Fred’s, and Diapers.com. A complete list of recalled products can be viewed on the FDA Website which includes labels of the recalled baby wipes.
The medical risk to healthy people is relatively low, but, people that have certain health conditions such as a weakened immune system may be more susceptible to infections with B. cepacia. If you are concerned that you may have used the affected baby wipes, you should call your medical doctor immediately for medical advice.
Prior to October 3rd the company had received one report of irritation associated with this recall. However, to date, there have been several more complaints of irritation, infection, fever, rash and respiratory issues although it has not yet been confirmed that it was linked to use with these products.
