Sweet Leaf Tea & Nut Butter Recalled

Comments Off

After receiving four complaints of glass fragments in the bottles, The Sweet Leaf Tea Co., owned by Nestle Waters, is recalling 1.5 bottles of iced tea from stores around the country.

In a news release, the company stated they are issuing the recall out of an “abundance of caution.” The recall affects 16-ounce glass bottles that were distributed during February 27 through December 6, 2015. The following flavors are included in the recall: raspberry, peach, mint and honey, half-and-half lemonade tea, green tea with citrus and the Sweet Leaf Tea original.

The company said the glass fragments in the recalled teas were the result of glass breakage during the filling process at a Pennsylvania plant. Sweet Leaf Tea informed the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) about the problem and issued the recall.

To this date there have been no reports of injury reported in conjunction with this recall. Most complaints were “fairly recent,” according to a company spokeswoman. Two complaints came from consumers while two came from distributors.

The company is focused on “more intense observation of the bottling line.”

Nut Butters Recalled for Salmonella

Earlier in the month, JEM Raw Chocolate issued a voluntary recall of nut butter spreads due to possible Salmonella contamination. There have been 11 reported illness associated with the recalled nut butter products, but no hospitalizations or deaths to date.
